INGREDIENTS
- 1 kg potatoes
- 700g minced meat
- 2 carrots
- 2 onions
- 50 ml vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 100g hard cheese
- 1 egg

Peel potatoes. Put them in water. When water starts boiling, add some salt. Cook until ready.

Peel carrots and grate them coarsely.

Cut onions into small cubes.

Fry onions in vegetable oil, then add carrots. Cook everything on a low heat for 10 minutes.

Add minced meat. Mix minced meat with vegetables and fry on a low heat until ready. It will be easier if you add a glass of water at the beginning. Then meat will cook quicker and will be softer.

Add tomato paste, salt and spices to your taste.

Put meat with vegetables into a baking dish in one layer.

Cook potatoes until ready. Drain the water. Mash the potatoes. Add 1 egg, spices and a bit of milk. Whisk until mashed potatoes are soft and light. Top the meat with a layer of mashed potatoes.

Grate coarsely some hard cheese. Sprinkle mashed potatoes with it.

Heat the oven to 220°C. Bake shepherd's pie in the oven for 40 minutes.
